About the Fund

The objective of the Fund is to support serving and retired officers at times of financial need. We know that life is full of unexpected challenges, and we’re here to provide a helping hand when times get hard.

Our Grants

The Fund provides grants to its members at times of financial need. Often this can make all the difference to making it through a difficult time.

These grants are simple to apply for and can often be approved quickly.

We also provide grants to help with out-of pocket expenses for members both retired and serving, who attend the Police Rehabilitation Centre for recuperative treatment

Our History

The Gloucestershire Constabulary Benevolent Fund was established as a trust many years ago to support serving and retired officers, their families, widows and children.

The Fund receives no funding from government, the Constabulary or any official source. Everything we do is funded almost entirely by member donations.

For many years it was run by various local policing Chief Inspectors, and latterly Police Federation Chairs, with support from a committee of serving and retired officers.

In 2023 the committee of the Fund were successful in obtaining charity status for the Fund, and it is now run as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). The Fund is registered with The Charity Commission (reg No 1201548) and operates within the Commissions rules.

The Fund is now run by a Board of Trustees, made up of retired and serving officers, who give up their time as volunteers to run the Fund.

It still supports serving and retired officers, their families, widows and children.

Meet the Trustees

The Fund is managed by a number of Trustees who are all serving and retired officers. The Trustees have responsibility for the governance of the Fund and the approval of Grants.

They are supported by Steve James, the Police Federation Branch Chair who provides secretarial support; and Derek Jones, a retired officer who administers the day-to-day running of the Fund.
